December 9, 2023, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (America/Chicago)
Location: West Valley Flying Club, 1901 Embarcadero Rd Ste 100, Palo Alto, CA 94303

To provide you with the training to become a GTM-3 trainee, we will be holding GTM-3 Familiarization & Preparation (Fam&Prep) training:

WHEN: Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 0900 - 1700

WHERE: Palo Alto Airport. Meet at West Valley Flying Club, 1901 Embarcadero Rd Ste 100, Palo Alto, CA 94303

The prerequisite for this Fam&Prep training is:

1) General Emergency Services (GES) rating (CAPT116 test along with Curry for Cadets and Level 1 for Seniors), and

2) A complete 24-hour pack containing all 38 items required in O-0001 of the Ground and Urban Direction Finding Team Task Guide provided here: https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/Ground_Team__UDF_Task_Guide__24_May_CD5DA29E1340B.pdf. You must have all of your own equipment, no sharing allowed.

During the December 9, 2023 Fam & Prep, we will be covering the 11 GTM-3 Fam & Prep SQTR tasks:

O-0001 Prepare Ground Team Individual Equipment (complete ABU uniform or CAP blue field uniform & 24-hour pack)

   O-0002 Conduct individual refit

O-0003 Prevent and treat hot weather injuries

O-0004 Prevent and treat cold weather injuries

   O-0101 Identify natural hazards

   O-0102 Prevent and treat fatigue

O-0103 Conduct field sanitation and hygiene

   O-0201 Use a compass

   O-0601 Conduct actions if lost

   O-0902 Exercise universal precautions

   P-0102 Conduct a phone alert

These tasks and evaluation guidelines are located in the Ground & Urban Direction Finding Team Task guide dated 24 May 2004 located at:   https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/Ground_Team__UDF_Task_Guide__24_May_CD5DA29E1340B.pdf

The most extensive task is obtaining all the items in the 24-hour pack to complete O-0001 as listed in the guideline above. If you are a backpacker, you probably have most of the items.  If not, it would require an investment. You would need all these items by December 9.

Civil Air Patrol is the auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Because of our close ties to the military, it is natural for drill and ceremonies to be included in some of our activities.

Drill is used as a way to develop individual and group response to authority by following orders promptly and precisely, build teamwork and espirit de corps, and to move masses of people from one place to another in an orderly fashion.

Military formations, drill and ceremonies are an important part of the Cadet Program. Logically, it is also a part of the Senior Member Training Program and as a senior member you should be knowledgeable of some military style formations, ceremonies and basic marching movements. You will be exposed to military formations and ceremonies during functions such as formations at your unit meetings, ceremonies, various schools, encampments, parades and other special activities and events.

Descriptions and illustrations of military formations, ceremonies and basic marching movements that senior members are expected to learn and be prepared to perform upon occassion will be included during this training session. If you have not completed your Level II Part 2, this session will help you complete "BASIC DRILL" lesson.

Please join us in our Drill & Ceremony Education & Training session for senior members with our trainer, a former cadet turning senior member, Jake Cobb.

All senior members from Group 2 are invited.
